Name: Ray Davis CommentI came across your page while trying to figure out where my leather Delta Brewing Company Escanaba Michigan key and picture holder came from. It looked like new, but I don't think it ever saw the sun or use. I bought it at an estate sale awhile back. Name: Jillian B. CommentI am very interested in locating items or further information regarding the Kolb Bros. Brewing Co. (aka Salzburg Brewery)which was located in Bay City, Michigan. My Great-Grandfather, George Kolb Sr. purchased the Salzburg Brewery in 1867. My Great-Uncles, George Kolb Jr. and Adam Kolb took over in 1888. The brewery was in operation by the Kolb family until it closed in 1939. ( with the exception of 1919 thru 1933 when they converted the brewery to a soda factory called Kolb Cerola Co during prohibition). I am very interested in finding out more about my family history...any Kolb's or Schroeder's out there? (My Grandmother, Margaret Kolb, married Frederick A. Schroeder)..........Thanks for your help! Name: Darwin Benjamin CommentI was pleasantly suprised to find information on the Von Brewing Company. I have an original VON BREWING COMPANY wooden beer barrel from the 30ties. My parents bought a bar in the 50ties from a gentleman whose bar was called DINTYS TAVERN. He lived right behind the bar and had an old two story barn/garage. In the 90ties I bought his old home and barn. In the top of the barn was this old wooden beer barrel with Von Brewing Company engraved in the barrel. It has very heavy duty iron rings to hold it together. They appear to be almost 1/8 inch thick and 2 1/2 inches wide. The barrel stands 24 1/2 inches tall, top and bottom is 15 inches across and a circumference around the middle of 66 inches. It is in good to excellent shape with some dry cracks in the wooden staves but do not appear to go all the way through. Peter Fauerbach Fauerbach Brewery Madison, WI 608/233-1793 Name: Andy Bilodeau CommentHello ! I was born and raised in Menominee, Michigan. I am an avid follower of the old Menominee Breweries. Some of the other brands were Menominee Champion, found in an orange cone top. I believed it was brewed until the mid late 30's and Old Craft. Old Craft was later brewed by Oconto. Also, Big Mac, brewed for the opening of the Mackinac Bridge in the 1950's. There were actually 2 breweries in Menominee. One was later converted into a furniture plant in the 40's. The current Henes and Liesen was razed after a fire in 1966. I remember the ash and soot floating in the air anround my house which was about 2 miles away. The only existing building is the grain office and stable barn. It houses I beleive a title company or lawyer's office. The actual brewery site now has an apartment building on it. The main office is also there. At one time, it housed Christensen Heating and Cooling. The original statue in front of the brewery "The Boy With The Leaky Boot" now stands in the Stephenson Library. I have several cans, bottles, beer caps and cases from that brewery. Some of the older taverns in Menominee still have some promotional items hanging.Needless to say, they would not part with them. I hope this is some use or interest to you. My mind is full of inane Menominee, Michigan history. Best Wishes to you and your endeavors. May I hear from you? Thanks, Phil Name: Bert Schoenit CommentLike to get in contakt with one of the Schoenith Family members about Genealogy,to exchange information have info. from the year 1645 on to 2001. thanks Name: Bill Alexander CommentIn the mid fiftys I received a beer stein from a family friend who stated that it belonged to his relatives several generations back. I was told that his relatives came to the USA from Europe and settled in the upper middle states; owned a brewery and each of the brothers or sons had a stein from which they drank their beer at dinner time. The steins were keep in the basement to keep cool. They are approx. 10" high , 3-4" wide, coloured prussian blue and grey with Germain inscriptions and a pewter cone shaped lid. I believe it is marked as a 1 litre stein. Unfortunately, their are no markings or symbols on the bottom; which makes me wonder. Is it really as old as I have been made to believe? I was not given the name of the original family; however the name of the person giving me the stein is John Alder. He claims, on the note that he gave me, that his ancestor was the first person to travel the length of the Mississippi river out to the open ocean in a very large yacht . I am interested in the authenticity of this stein and if it has any value. As an aside, I have wondered if his last name is a spinoff or modification of Altes or some other brewery. Sorry about the size but thought I should give as much info as possible. Thanks again, Bill Alexander Ottawa, Ontario Canada (formerly of Windsor where I drank many an Altes beer while working at the Bank of Commonwealth).
